I was never into roller coasters...

We signed the papers for our Reverse Mortgage, May 21st, so no more house payments.  Our plan is to stay 2-5 more years and wait until the real estate market improves.  Our plan B would be to sell and look for something cheap (?) in CALI to rent and Plan C is to stay here if the market does not improve...

We are gearing up for my husband's retirement...meeting with Financial Advisers and Tax people...trying to line up all our financial ducks in a row...

My husband is in the process of trading his fancy, sporty, Acura RL for a cheaper, more economical Toyota or Honda...

This morning, as I came back from filing for my Social Security, there was a message on our machine from that Realtor who brought over one of two sisters who was interested in buying our house after it was taken off the market... (I think I wrote about this event on my other blog, Mystical Journeys)

When I showed the sister and her husband the house, they were kind of obnoxious.  They arrived a half hour early, before their Realtor (who was lost) and made themselves at home, as if they were relatives.  They stayed so long, grilling me about the neighborhood, I thought they expected an invitation to dinner!  The man kept after Izzy, trying to get her to come close so he could pet her.  He kept going to her, ignoring my repeated warnings that she had been abused by a man and was leery of them.... Finally, I just let Izzy bark at the jerk...

The woman talked the entire time about her home, which is also the same model as ours, going on and on how FABULOUS it is.  She did not make one compliment toward our home, only about how nice our back patio was...

Anyway, they are back!  The Realtor said the other sister is coming out in July and wants to negotiate with us. (Oh, really?)  I told the Realtor we had not heard from them, so we thought they were not interested.  The Realtor assured me "they were interested...just playing it cool".... (How's that workin' for 'ya??)

I am not too impressed with the Realtor.  She wants us to allow her to list our house, cutting out the agent who helped us before we took it off the market.  (Sorry lady, we don't operate like that...)

I let her know we had just signed the papers for the Reverse Mortgage.  She misunderstood, and told me, "to hold off". ( Too late... )  When I informed her we just did it, she began admonishing me for "not calling her."  (Maybe she was, suppose to call us, but didn't??) We would have to start our California home search all over again...because the deadline to make changes on the Hemet house is a few days away...and we thought we put that option to rest... The taxes, insurance and HOA are twice as high as what we pay now anyway...

Who knows...our lives seem to pick up speed as we age, instead of slow down!  Just when you think we can stretch out on the beach of relaxation, a rogue wave floods the camp and we must start all over again....

I was never into roller coasters, but I may have to learn to like 'em...something tells me we better hang on tight from here on out...

yep, sounds like you better hang on tight! i've grown used to roller coasters, too and they were never my favorite amusement ride.

sounds like you may have to be rethinking your plans, yet again...

good luck.

it is so true about life being a roller coaster. There are ups and downs and unexpected twists and turns. It is exciting and scary and sometimes overwhelming. But...and I mean this sincerely...I will take it all. I don't know or want to know what the alternative is at this time. So I will keep getting back in line for the ride and just 'roll"with it all.
hope you have a great weekend and thanks for commenting on my blog. It is most appreciated!

Teresa and Dr. Soosie: It's like in that movie, PARENTHOOD with Steve Martin and Mary Steenburgen. Steve's character, Gil was talking to the Grandma. The grandma told him her husband took her on a roller coaster when she was 19...."it was just so interesting to me that a ride could make me so frightened, so scared, so sick, so excited, and so thrilled all together! Some didn't like it. They went on the merry-go-round. That just goes around. Nothing. I like the roller coaster. You get more out of it."

It's so true, riding the roller coaster is much more exciting than the merry-go-round!!!

And when I get to it, my next posting is going to be about uncertainty...of which there seems to be an unending supply. Sometimes we need the quiet of the merry-go-round to collect our thoughts. Can't do that when you're hanging on just to stay in the seat.

I don't like your real estate agent either; a little unethical in my opinion to go behind her broker's back

always interesting what curves life throws us indeed

Well if the Realtor didn't let you know those folk were still interested, what does she expect?
I prefer things to be a little less hectic, hope the roller coaster ride doesn't last too long for you!

Hi Marylinn: I'll be reading your post on uncertainty. I know what you mean...these are very trying times, to say the least! My husband has been in banking over 45 years and he has NEVER seen things as bad as they are!

Hi betty: Sorry, guess I was not clear. It is NOT our real estate agent, it is the agent for the people who want to buy our house. THEIR agent wants to cut out the agent we used before we took the house off the market.

I was suppose to call her back today...but I didn't. I will call her tomorrow and tell her they better keep looking as we would have to sell it for more to absorb the fees we had to pay for the Reverse Mortgage.

We are not going to even consider moving in the heat of the Nevada summers. June through August are HORRENDOUS with triple digits! The monsoons and flash flooding are July through September. October is beautiful and then it o gets cold after Halloween through January. February through May is PERFECT weather.
