In The Zone...

Got a lot going on today with gardeners blowing out the rock in our yard....estimates from two more Paver companies, getting everything ready for my daughter arriving tomorrow... So I had to get up extra early and get to the gym to do my work out...

These past 8 days I have been working out, I have given some private nick names to some of the regulars who also in the gym...  "The Sniffer" is a man I think lives in the gym, because no matter what time I come in, he is there on the end, doing the elliptical and he constantly sniffs...more like blows out his nose while working out... extremely irritating.  I have to blast my iPod so I don't hear him.  Other people working out next to him, often leave mumbling unpleasantries...When I leave he is still going strong on his machine.

Then there is "the Moaner"; a woman who, bless her heart, is determined to drop pounds and inches.  She sounds like she is having more fun than how she looks while working out...If you don't look at her, you swear you are listening to an x-rated movie...

"The Slapper" is a short man who runs on the treadmill.  He doesn't look heavy, but he slaps his feet so heavily and loud, it sounds like he is wearing swim fins on his feet!  He sweats up a storm and sounds like he is going to pass out any minute...

There is a tiny Asian women I call "the Twister" because while walking fast on the treadmill, she moves her hands and arms side to side like she is doing the twist.  If I am not focused, my peripheral vision picks up her movements and interferes with my treadmill workout.

I have tried using my earphones to watch TV, looking out at the mountains beyond the gym windows, or using my iPod.  Definitely, listening to my iPod is the best.

This morning, I was in the zone, my iPod shuffle was on some great Oldies But Goodies and Neil Diamond...just the right beat to work out to and help me tune out all the noise around me.  I got into a rhythm and had my best work out yet.

Today is going to be a great day and tomorrow, EVEN BETTER!

Wonderful post. Got a loud guffaw at the Moaner... I have had some art going again, and today I get to SING. Anyway, I am so glad this is working for you.

Catch you later, my friend.

Funny (if not always pleasant) crowd you have there at the gym.
Congrats on your good week of workouts.
Enjoy the visit with your daughter.

Love your description of the People of the Gym.

Good for you for making it work.

Maybe that is why I can't stand gyms! I love laps in the pool where there is very little noise, just the slosh of water, the quick intake of breath ane the occasional "Help! I'm drowning!"

Hi there ... a most entertaining review of the gym scene. I have just returned to the mountains of Central Oregon from five weeks in Atlanta where I walked miles and miles every day .. outside! The best. Me and my IPod.

I hope these people do not happen to be bloggers as with your brilliant descriptions they might just recognise themselves. :)
