Writing Challenge, Hostessed by Magpie Tales
he stared at his potential porthole
of leather bound editions...
gathering his wits
he wondered if anyone
could hear the pounding of his heart...
despite the thunder
in his ears
he swallowed twice
hearing the hushed whispers
and muffled, seductive, giggles
from the isle
on the other side of him...
was he prepared to see for himself?
red handed proof,
the rumors were true?
his hand trembled
as he reached for
a handful of books....

You build the suspense well. Great Magpie!
This is a fabulous write... love the anticipation, the wondering...
Ooooo, Peeping Tom in the library! Naughty! Or is his spouse on the other side of the books with another man? Painful.
ohhhh, this was good; I had to read it a couple times to make sure I "got it" because I was having trouble "getting it" (long day). But makes you wonder what was in that handful of books he was reaching for and would his curiousity be fulfilled?
betty
Possible more like a telescope than a porthole? Books bring the world closer! :)
I had to giggle since this brought to mind visions of John Malkolvich.
Sensory-effective, reader-grabbing work.
Whoops - discovery is at hand. I saw dark humour in this whether it was intended or not.
