eyes cast down
shielding
shy with confrontation
restraint for conversation
inward
as mental eyes
stare, fixed, catatonic
do not speak
do not think
blend in
afraid
fearing
the slightest
attention
keep smiling
keep hiding
behind
a mask
of
deception

Those masks are worn by many!
Some great poems and quotes posted here recently, thanks for sharing them Donna.
I really liked the way you set this out. Great poem
You capture so many different emotions and moods that could be seen in this face!

Indeed. I think we all wear masks at times.

The poem is very inward looking...
Such a risk, to let the mask slip.
Beautifully shaped poem.
The story of many peoples' lives told beautifully in so few words.
